This year's Family Fun Day, almost didn't happen, due to rain. However, many die hard members persevered, and eventually the sky cleared. Almost on cue, guests started to appear magically. The third annual Family Fun Day was held on September 19th, despite sporadic showers! Many thanks to Sheldon's, Hobbytown and the members that helped make this event another success.

The second annual "Bayside Family Fun Day" was held on Saturday, August 9th. 2003. Once again this proved to be a very enjoyable day. We had approximately two hundred people visit the field. The purpose of this event was to show newcomers what the RC Modelling sport is all about. We had on display a nice selection of models, ranging from "basic trainers", to "giant scale "War-birds". Visitors were free to roam the flight line to have a close look at the planes and ask questions. A sign-up list was in progress, where visitors were taken up flying on a buddy box, with the club trainer models by Club Instructors, to be introduced to "hands-on" flying. Incredibly, there were 135 instructional flights conducted!!! Also popular was the small building table where freely supplied small rubber powered tissue and balsa models were being made. It was extremely satisfying to see a lot of boys and girls (and grown-ups) having a go at this, with just a little help from some club members. We had several flying demonstrations by experienced members with some impressive aerobatics and "war-bird" fly-by's. Additionally, one of the local clubs came along and set up a boating pond which had sailing craft and speedboats whizzing around. We had a raffle just for the visitors, with many excellent prizes. Happy winners went away with some ARF models and accessories, to help them get started in the sport. Reporters from the Fremont Argus newspaper were photographing the activities and interviewing people and a very nice article appeared in the following days paper. Without doubt, everyone had a good time and we are quite sure that there will be several new families starting out in the RC modelling sport.

The Bayside "Family Fun Day" was held on Saturday, September 28th. This was without doubt, a resounding success! There were more than two hundred people in attendance. The intent of the event was to show newcomers what the RC Modelling sport is all about. We had on display a nice selection of models, ranging from "basic trainers", to "giant scale warbirds". Visitors were free to roam the flight line to have a close look at the planes and ask questions. A sign-up list was in progress, where kids were taken up flying on a buddy box, with the club trainer models by Club Instructors, to be introduced to "hands-on" flying. This of course was very popular. Also popular was the small building table where freely supplied small rubber powered tissue and balsa models were being made. It was extremely satisfying to see a lot of boys and girls (and grown-ups) having a go at this, with just a little help from some club members. We had various flying demonstrations with some awesome aerobatics by fixed wing and Helicopter models. This drew many a gasp and applause from the enraptured audience. A special thanks to Zak West and Perry Kavros for the aerobatics. Not only did we have the "fixed wing plane" activities, but also "helicopter", "car" and "boat" RC activity. One of the local clubs came along and set up a pretty large boating pond which had sailing craft and speedboats whizzing around. There was a raffle just for the visitors, with many excellent prizes which were donated by Sheldons Hobbies. Happy winners went away with some ARF's and accessories, to help them get started in the hobby. Last, but not least, we had two Vendor stalls set up for shoppers. There was "Hobbytown USA" from Newark and "Online EZ Shopping" from Sacramento. All-told, it was a most enjoyable day.
