Bayside R/C Club | San Francisco, San Jose and East Bay’s best radio control club site

Today, September 30, 2010 is the absolute last day that club members are able to use the flying field. After today BART will officially take over the area and the field will be closed.

So if you are interested in flying or driving one more time before the field is gone for good you should head out to Fremont right now.

Final Weekend at Bayside Field

For those folks that made it out to the field on Sunday, September 26, 2010, it was a good time to say goodbye to the regular weekend fliers and help take down some of the last structures at the field.

The final day to fly at the field is Thursday, September 30, 2010.  After that date the field will be closed to Bayside members permanently and BART will change the lock on the gate so that no one can access the area.

Please note: at this time no replacement field has been found for club use. If you wish to keep flying we recommend you visit some of the other Bay Area AMA chartered flying clubs which can be found on this page.

Field Closure Update

For those who missed it in email this week, here is the latest information about the field closing in September 2010.

BART Update:

Well gang, we tried. But the bottom line from the meeting Wednesday with the BART rep on site is that we are out at the end of this month.

It feels like there could be much said at this point but I’m not sure what that is so I’ll just stay on track with what I volunteered for.

Final clean up at the field will take place not this weekend but the following: the 25th and 26th.

We will have another dumpster on site into which we will load all remaining items including tables, chairs, lane pipe from the car track, and whatever else is left. The only real job to do which will require a generator and sawzalls, is to cut down the metal posts of the flight stations, wind socks, and flag pole. These will all go into the dumpster too. Let’s get all this done on Saturday the 25th.

If you have a generator (2,500 watt min.) that is convenient to bring to the field, let me know. Otherwise I’ll need to make arrangements myself.

I think the only thing that will be left to do is find a home for the porta potty. I think we can move that to the storage yard but we’ll need someone with a pickup to haul it.

So here we are with two weekends remaining for Bayside as a place to fly. The facilities are pretty bare but air is still just fine. Come on out for some final flights.

See you at the field.
