Well folks this may come as late notice but probably not unexpected. We are canceling the Bayside Auction we’ve held every year since 1999 in October at the Holy Spirit church. We’ve been hoping all year that the Covid virus would run its course and things could get back to some version of normal but we are not there yet.
If we do get to normal (2.0) we will look at doing the auction as soon as practical possibly in the spring.
Thanks,

June 2020 Update https://www.baysidercclub.com/2020/06/june-2020-update/ Sat, 20 Jun 2020 15:18:45 +0000 https://www.baysidercclub.com/?p=15138 Continue reading June 2020 Update]]> Bayside members,

It’s hard to believe it has been three months since I last wrote a note out to everyone. Sorry if I should have gotten in touch sooner but the virus and our fearful leaders have kept such a lid on all social activities that it has been hard to plan for much of anything.

By the way, who do we have as members now? Do you still consider yourself as a member of the Bayside Club? We hope so.

Back in March we were very close to having a club meeting at the pizza joint and I was suggesting we get back to monthly rather than quarterly meetings when the shelter in place order came about and our plans went into the bin. So it has been a pretty poor past six months for the club with the passing of Jack our raffle master and the lack of attendance at our Christmas dinner. We must not have done a very good job advertising that.

With restrictions loosening a little and our own new appreciation of cleanliness protocols maybe we can start planning on getting together for something akin to a meeting of club members. Can we get a dozen members together for an outdoor meeting at say, Baylands Park in Sunnyvale early on a Sunday for example? Fly a plane, do some loops, and have a conversation about what we can do as a club? Probably not all at the same time but you get the idea. Maybe a Saturday evening at a member’s home? BBQ perhaps, if you can stand the exposure? At least we could get together and figure this thing out because right now the club is shall we say, stagnant, and we really should get it back on track.  Having said all that, the club needs some additional officers as soon Vance will be moving away leaving just Mike and Alex on deck. We need some help to run the club and get it moving again.

And speaking of help and getting involved, here is the last piece of business I’d like to touch on. The Bayside Auction date is Saturday, October 10th this year and we will definitely need everyone’s help. Last year went really well using the computer system for the second time which made it run smoothly and I heard no complaints about the new way. The usual problems at
the end of the day were very minimal and we cleaned things up quickly. Given our loss of Jack at the registration table and the probability that Vance won’t be at his post as the payout cashier, we have two very critical roles needing filling. Please mark your calendars and plan to help.
Finally, my notes to the club are only one-sided. I’d really like to hear back from members once in a while with your thoughts so if you have any input at all, I’d love to hear it. Email me at iflyi16@comcast.net  and let me know you’re out there.

Thanks,

Remembering Jack Petersen https://www.baysidercclub.com/2019/12/remembering-jack-peterson/ Mon, 30 Dec 2019 00:35:28 +0000 https://www.baysidercclub.com/?p=15122 Continue reading Remembering Jack Petersen]]> Sorry to bring you bad news, but to get right to the point of this message, I’m writing to inform everyone that our Bayside Raffle Master has passed away. I know it has been way too long since we were at our flying site but you may recall visiting with Jack Petersen there or seeing him helping Dave with the monthly BBQ’s we used to have at the field. Since he said he had a job once that included driving a forklift, I took every opportunity to let him have that job at the field when we moved things around with Carl’s equipment. The last time was to pull up the runway material where Jack drove the forklift as a tractor towing the fabric behind. We’d cut it into manageable pieces and load them into a trailer for disposal. There was also this big dozer which we were not using but Jack had to climb up just to try it on for size.

If you didn’t catch him at the field then you certainly experienced him at our monthly, then quarterly, club meetings as he held the raffle every time. He was often very creative in how he’d run the raffle and tried several different ways by wrapping the prizes or doing a double blind draw where the person with the winning ticket would then draw a number from a sock to correspond with the item he’d end up with. Jack always tried to have fun with it and wished we’d give him enough money for the Christmas Dinner meeting so he could get something for everyone.

Speaking of that, Jack was always early to the meetings and would set up his prizes ahead of time. So I was surprised and then concerned when he did not show up at the dinner and did not answer my calls to him. The next Monday I received a call from his sister Jeanette that he had passed away from a heart attack possibly Friday the day before the dinner. I was sad to hear that and to miss another friend from the RC hobby. He was a fun guy, always happy and loved to help out at the field, our meetings, and the auction.

We have word from Jack’s sister that a Celebration of Life for Jack Peterson will be held Tuesday January 14th @1:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 48950 Green Valley Rd. Fremont. This is just east of 680 at Scott Creek Rd. All club members and friends are invited and encouraged to attend. Your presence will show the family how much Jack meant to us.Please help spread the word

Final Field Clean Up https://www.baysidercclub.com/2019/09/final-field-clean-up/ Thu, 26 Sep 2019 04:03:56 +0000 https://www.baysidercclub.com/?p=15091 Continue reading Final Field Clean Up]]> Bayside members and friends, we have one more step in completing the move out from the Mowry site. That being the removal of the runway fabric. We also have some of the steel desk tables which if we can’t find a home for will be crushed and sent to the dump along with the fabric and our pile of logs. That’s what we aim to accomplish. If you have a use for any of those things then make a plan to take them. This is scheduled for this Saturday the 28th. I’ll be out there about 7:30 to get things rolling so please come help out.
Carl has offered his heavy equipment for us to use along with his dump trailer and plans to haul it to the transfer station which is close by.
Come with any ideas and tools for cutting the fabric, pulling the staples out of the ground, a chain saw for the longer logs, anything you think might help the operation go smoothly.
If we get plenty of help we should be able to wrap this up in a few hours so come on out for our final job at Mowry.
See you Saturday.
Thanks,
Mike
